Heading to Tomball!

Landhaus Nikodemus March 31, 2016The weather is getting warmer everywhere (for the most part, right?)– which means festival season is soon upon us! It starts up for the Alex Meixner Band this coming weekend with our annual return to Tomball, TX for their wonderful German Festival.

Polka Beat LogoI get to start things off with a solo gig at Landhaus Nikodemus on Thursday evening before the band (sponsored by polkabeat.com) joins in at the festival for Friday-Saturday and Sunday. The admission is free and there’s a whole bunch of stages all along the street, in addition to strolling entertainment and a great array of vendors. So come on down and enjoy a great weekend.

Tomball German Heritage Festival 2016After the festival, I stick around for 2 days of educational clinics at local elementary schools. A huge part of my work through the years has involved music education and it’s always a great time watching kids get excited about accordions and different cultures. Sometimes teachers find me and other times there are interested individuals or organizations that help support these projects– but in any case, I’m grateful for the opportunities to work with students and continue the legacy of the music I perform.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the road in the near future.

Spring Break! First Festival of the Year and More!

Green BeerStarting tonight, Alex and Tommy (along with Joe for tonight and tomorrow) will be rocking the Hofbräu in Panama City Beach, FL for St Patty’s Day/ Spring Break/ perennial celebration of Oktoberfest through Sunday! If you’re in the neighborhood come on in and get a liter or 3, the best German food on the beach and Polka your brains out. If you’re not here, the weather seems to be thawing up north enough to escape now!

After PCB, Alex will be conducting some educational clinics in an elementary school in Pearland, Texas where the illustrious Brian Berlin, music teacher extraordinaire has hundreds of elementary school kids playing accordion. It’s a sight to behold!

Then continuing on into Tomball, TX– where Alex where do a special, unplugged solo concert at Landhaus Nikodemus on Thursday, March 26 to kickoff the Tomball German Festival, where The Alex Meixner Band will be appearing all weekend… Polkabeat.com proudly sponsors the band annually for our first festival appearances of the year. This is a great, intimate festival on the streets of a cool, little town– and it’s completely free admission!

Finally, Alex will have one more solo concert/ clinic in Pasadena, TX on Monday, March 30 for Heritage Arts Productions. Sheila Lee is a wonderful accordion educator in the Houston area and has presented Alex for the past few years– it’s a great little scene.  (Psst…the concert portion of the session will be broadcast via a live stream.  Stay tuned for details!)

Hope to see y’all out there.
