Another week is almost flown by…..
It’s Oktoberfest time so I’m flying by the seat of my pants—but strangely enough, it’s not all Oktoberfest work right now! Last week I had the great honor of recording with the incredible accordionist Guy Klucevsek. Some very exciting music that will be released on CD in the near future—it’s definitely a step in a different world for me, but all an extension of what music can lead us to. Of course, the sessions were quickly followed by the return of leather….. I had Oktoberfest gigs with The Alex Meixner Band at United German-Hungarians for the Bayrischer Volksfest Verein- near Philadelphia, PA and at Stoudt’s Brewery in Adamstown, PA. Despite the remnants of hurricanes blowing rain up the east coast—we had enthusiastic audiences at both venues as we brought out the old traditional chestnuts and hit with all of our energetic Oktoberfest favorites. We’ll be back at Stoudt’s on Sunday October 19— if you’re in the area you don’t want to miss it— not only is it a great venue for our band- the beer, food (especially Eddie’s Breads and Pretzels) and the overall atmosphere is a lot of fun!
Last night, I went down to Philadelphia with my cousin/ guitarist and all around good guy- Jon Asbath to check out an “In the Mix” event for the Philadelphia chapter of NARAS. It was good to get out and meet some of the people in our area making music. It never ceases to amaze me how much talent is out there- locally and internationally— meeting up with some new friends in the jazz, gospel, pop and R & B worlds—and also checking out their connections and interests to the music that I’m focusing on these days. Hopefully I’m able to continue attending more of these events to forge greater partnerships for my upcoming projects.
In the meantime—- I’m back to teaching a bit today and gearing up for some more Oktoberfest gigs this weekend…. A country club in Hummels Wharf, PA and the 1st annual October Fescht in Schnecksville, PA (benefiting the American Cancer Society). Hope to see ya out there!
