The polka van is moving on the highways across the USA. Monday had me doing a solo presentation (and some very productive meetings) at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio for a dedication ceremony for the Vitak-Elsnic Collection in their music library. Music Publishers of America are working in conjunction with BGSU to work on developing not only a resource library for polka music and recordings, but having offerings that will help students have the opportunity to study the culture and musical relevance of this genre that I’ve devoted my life to performing, studying and promoting. It’s a very important step for our music. If you’d like to check out a little of what we’ve started and hopefully support the cause check out the Falcon Funding page, https://falconfunded.bgsu.edu/preservepolka
Tonight- The Alex Meixner Band hits the stage for corporate sponsor night for our first visit to the Tulsa Oktoberfest. It is my understanding that we’re in a sold out VIP tent, but hopefully, we will make a good impression and return next year !
Tomorrow,  on Thursday, October 22,  the band and I will be making a quick stop in Tomball, TX at Mainstreet Crossing— a cool little theater…great room, acoustics and it’s indoors– (for all of you worried about the weather out there.) This is a first time venue for The Alex Meixner Band, but of course we’ve been to Tomball for their German Festival many times, so hopefully we can get the word out and see many of our fans there. I really look forward to the intimate theater shows personally, it allows me to fine tune the sound and play more requests… 😉
Finally- Friday and Saturday, October 23-24 bring us to our first appearances at the Galveston Island Oktoberfest. The weather forecast seems to have lightened up a bit, but rest assured, all precautions are on to make the tents solid if some liquid sunshine appears and the Alex Meixner Band is ready to polka, rock, jazz up and whatever else ya wanna hear us play!
… and then shortly after will be Wurstfest! Get your groups together and get everyone to follow our Facebook and Twitter posts about some fun stuff heading into the New Braunfels fun fest!!
