Had a fun little weekend of gigs, kicked off with an unexpected call from my friend Mario Tacca for a last minute concert date in Westhampton, NY. Turns out, his wife, the incomparable vocalist Mary Mancini, had a case of laryngitis so they needed a substitute for her in a concert. Luckily, I wasn’t asked to sing her vast repertoire of classical and international favorites, but I did get to sit in with some accordion solos and trumpet features with Mario and the band. It was a lot of fun- actually a preview for a gig we have coming up at the Maganini Vineyard in Wallkill, NY on Sun. Sept. 13…. If you’re in the area see us then… in the meantime, a speedy recovery to Mary!
Switching accordion gears again, on Fri. I returned to one of my favorite venues, Barbes, in Brooklyn, NY. This time I did a duo concert with the awesome accordionist/ composer- Guy Klucevsek. Guy has been writing and arranging up a storm for us—and really getting me in gear reading some challenging and rewarding music with him. The audience was very enthusiastic and I look forward to not only returning to Barbes again in the near future—but continuing to develop the repertoire with Guy….
Finally Saturday, found a return engagement for the Alex Meixner Band at the Alpine in Honesdale, PA. It’s always a pleasure performing for the Eiffert family and the crowd that comes out for our gig up there. Luckily, the rain held out for our performance and we hope to be able to return again next year.
In the meantime, there’s still no word from cd baby regarding the digital distribution on the new cd- “Stay All Night”… (sorry for the hold up!!)—If you want a cd though, they are available at www.cdbaby.com/meixneralex2 or by seeing us at a live gig…. The Oktoberfest schedule kicks in with Labor Day weekend gigs (Fri and Sat) at the new Hofbrau Haus in Pittsburgh, PA.
Also— there are some cool interviews I’ve been doing for the new cd… I’ll have some links posted soon….
