Back in November, I had the great opportunity to travel to Bethlehem PA to perform and teach at Moravian University.
Jazz director, Neil Wetzel did a fantastic job setting the itinerary and repertoire. We discussed the goals and strengths of his ensemble and students to determine how I could positively impact the environment for as much of the music school as possible.
I brought some of my charts (arrangements and compositions showcasing my trumpet and piano accordion) and Neil also had other charts from his library that fit us well. I did lessons on accordion and trumpet, spoke with music education majors, and coached jazz combos in addition to discussing many career options in music with students.
The concert was a special night as the BIG jazz band was also celebrating the release of their new CD.
The entire faculty and music student body at Moravian University made this a truly memorable experience for me. I hope to return in the future as well as continue more educational work in middle/ high schools and universities in the near future.
