Alex solo performance for “Alpine Night”

Dining on jaegerschnitzel while an accordionist plays Bavarian tunes might suggest a ski-chalet dinner in the Alps, but it’s all part of Alpine Night at Restaurant 44, the open-to-the-public restaurant at the Palm Beach Towers condominium complex.

Alpine Night is back by popular demand on Thursday, after the first one this season in January wowed a full house of guests. Restaurant 44, 44 Cocoanut Row, held an Alpine-themed night last season, too, and it also was a hit.

That’s not exactly a culinary surprise considering 44′s executive chef Philip Kroesen knows his way around dishes such as jaegerschnitzel — thinly pounded and seared veal cutlets with hunter sauce — having worked years ago at ski resorts in the Austrian and German Alps.

Throughout this Thursday’s 6-8:30 p.m. dinner, accordionist and entertainer Alex Meixner is slated to provide musical entertainment.

The three-course meal starts with a “feather light” cheese-and-herb dumpling in chicken broth. For the main course, guests have a choice of the aforementioned jaegerschnitzel or “Oktoberfest-style” roast chicken served with chicken jus.

With the main courses, side dishes will be served family-style at each table: house-made spaetzle with mountain cheeses topped with fried onions; braised red cabbage; poached asparagus; and house-made potato pancakes served with apple sauce on the side.

For dessert, executive pastry chef Matthew Harrington has planned warm apple strudel with vanilla sauce and house-made whipped cream on the side.

The Alpine-themed dinner at Restaurant 44, which offers valet parking, is $50 a person.
