After a really fun day in El Campo, Texas teaching the Middle and High School students about polka music, (and a quick guest spot on KULP’s longest running daily Polka show) I’ve been preparing for The Big Squeeze in Austin this weekend.
Texas Folklife Resources produces this contest for Cajun/ Zydeco, Polka and Conjunto accordionists under the age of 21. I was honored to be one of the judges for the video round and will be judging the finals with a great panel of accordion experts in Texas in addition to doing a little concert with my band. Conjunto Los Pinkys and Los Fresnos HS Conjunto Halcón, a high school conjunto group, will also be performing at this free event at the Bullock museum. Come enjoy the talents of the accordion students and bands from 1-5pm and then you can go out and enjoy a night on the town in Austin.
I’ll also be playing an informal reception at Texas Folklife on Sunday for one more accordion jam with the 2018 Big Squeeze finalists, including a very special accordion workshop with yours truly!
Hope to see y’all there!
